Best Areas in Saint-Tropez: Old Port, La Ponche, Place des Lices & Pampelonne
Saint-Tropez is small enough to cross on foot in twenty minutes, yet its character changes completely from one corner to the next — a working harbour, a medieval fishing quarter, a market square, and a legendary beach, each only a short walk or drive from the others.
The Vieux Port
The old harbour remains the town's social centre, where superyachts berth bow-to-quay a few metres from working fishing boats, and the waterfront cafés exist chiefly for watching both. La Ponche
Tucked behind the port, La Ponche is Saint-Tropez before the yachts arrived — a former fishing quarter of narrow lanes, pastel façades, and a small pebble beach, now home to boutiques, galleries, and the red-terraced Café Sénéquier. Cheval Blanc St-Tropez, covered in our hotels guide, sits directly on this stretch, pairing the quarter's historic scale with its most contemporary address.
Place des Lices
Shaded by plane trees and ringed by cafés, Place des Lices is Saint-Tropez at its most local — a market square twice a week, a pétanque pitch every evening. Pampelonne Beach
Four kilometres of sand south of town, Pampelonne has been the place to see and be seen since the 1950s, its shoreline divided among the beach clubs and restaurants referenced throughout our nightlife guide. Ramatuelle & Gassin
